FAQs

What is the difference between competitive and development registration?

Both categories of athletes will train together with the club and develop their skills under the direction of club coaches. Competitive athletes are registered with Athletics Ontario and are able to compete at sanctioned meets and championships such as AO prep meets, and Provincial and National Championships. Development athletes may complete at non-sanctioned events such as Legion and Twilight meets when available. If unsure, parents and athletes are encouraged to discuss with coaches which category is recommended

Do I need any special gear?

All training equipment such as throwing implements, blocks, and hurdles are supplied by the club. Athletes will need to bring running shoes and a water bottle. Athletes should wear comfortable, weather appropriate, clothing that is suitable for a hard workout. Competitive athletes may wish to bring specialized gear such as spikes or throwing equipment.

What time should I arrive for practice?

Athletes should arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to the designated practice time and be prepared to participate in warm up activities promptly at the start of the practice. Parents of younger athletes (under 16) are asked to arrive on time for pick up as our volunteer coaches would also like to leave on time.

Can I watch my child at practices?

Absolutely, yes! Parents, caregivers, and friends are encouraged to attend practices. We ask that you sit in the designated spectator areas behind all safety structures. Please remain respectful of all athletes and coaches. We kindly ask that you do not coach your athlete from the sidelines – our coaches are on it!

Will practices be cancelled due to weather?

Practices normally occur rain or shine, with athletes expected to dress appropriately. Our coaches and volunteers are committed to run practices as scheduled however athlete safety remains our top priority. Every effort will be made to post cancellations on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts 20 to 30 minutes before practice. Athletes (or parents/guardians) are expected to make their own decisions regarding participation. Please note that severe weather warnings, very heavy rainfall, high winds, or hail may also result in cancellation at any time. Lightning, up to 30 minutes before practice and anytime during practice, will result in immediate cancellation.
